Step By Step: Easy Topsy Tail (No Tools Required)

Bonjour!

I’m starting a series of easy hair tutorials which are great for any occasions, especially if you are going out and you don’t have too much time to spend on your hair, but you still want it to look nice. I know that most people find it extremely difficult to style their own hair, myself included, but I promise I’ll try to make it simple as possible for you! :)

I chose the Topsy Tail to start because it’s a very basic ponytail with a twist (literally)! I was inspired by Kaley’s (LetsMakeitUp1) youtube video and I think this hair style looks pretty, neat and it’s very wearable on an everyday basis or you can dress it up with accessories, jewellery and a striking makeup look. Let’s get started!

1. Secure your hair in a ponytail with a small hair band

This is the easy part; you can have your ponytail on the back of your head, to one side, or even with a section of your hair, but to achieve the look I’m showing here, it’s best if you have it all on the back.

2. Pry the hair just above the hair band apart

You are going to use your fingers to open a little “whole” in the middle; it’s easier if you keep your fingers holding this opening from the bottom upwards.

3. Lift the ponytail up and pull it through the slit

With your other hand, slide the ponytail through the whole you’ve just created and pull it down; this will create a topsy tail.

4. Pull the ponytail apart to scrunch up the topsy tail and hide the gap in the middle

This will also hide the hair band. You can loosen up the topsy tail for a more bohemian look or leave it tight and neat. If you’re going out in the evening, it might be a good idea to use some hairspray to stop the topsy tail from sliding down, especially if you have very silky and fine hair.

And that’s it. Simples, right? I love this look! I think it looks chic, and its super duper easy.

What do you think? Let me know on a comment below if you try this tutorial. I’d love to read about your experiences with a topsy tail!

I love it. Unfortunately I just cut my hair for the hot summer months, so I can’t quite manage it –yet. Great photos, too! Thanks! x
