Dior Airflash Spray Foundation (Review, Swatches & Photos)

Dior Airflash Foundation

Diorskin Airflash Foundation, £33 | Debenhams | House of Fraser

Ever since seeing the beautiful Amelia from Liana Beauty rave about this foundation over at her blog, I knew I had to have it. Her skin looked pretty immaculate, so that’s a good enough reason for me to want it. Make sure you visit Amelia’s blog; you’ll love it!

Dior Airflash Foundation

The Dior Diorskin Airflash Foundation is a spray foundation; the concept is simple, instead of fussing with a liquid foundation, and wasting time applying and blending a liquid foundation, you just spray this foundation on your face and you’re good to go. Sounds incredible, doesn’t it? So I went to a Dior counter and asked for a demonstration. The lady at the counter was very friendly and polite, and treated me to a full makeover!

Dior Airflash Foundation

She started by matching me to shade #300 Medium Beige, which was a pretty good match. To be honest, the shade range is not great. There are only 5 shades (Light Beige, Cameo, Medium Beige, Sand and Honey), so it’s worth getting yourself matched before buying it.

She then proceeded to prep me by putting some paper tissues around my top and holding my hair back, to make sure the foundation didn’t stain my clothes or went all over my hair. She also warned me to not apply this foundation against a white wall, just in case. Next, she held the can about 8 inches away from my face and sprayed a generous amount of foundation, to achieve a flawless coverage. After leaving it to dry for about 30 seconds she blended the excess with a brush. For a more natural coverage, she recommended spraying less product and leaving it to dry naturally.

The result was this: flawless complexion! My skin looks airbrushed and incredibly perfect; at closer inspection, you can definitely tell I’m wearing foundation, but from a normal distance, it just looks like I’ve got flawless skin. She did apply a lot more than normal, just to show me the amount of coverage I could get out of it, but on a daily basis I’d go for a lot less coverage.

Dior Airflash Foundation

This foundation is perfect for evening wear because it has no SPF in it (so no flash-back) and it’s long-lasting. I’d say this is a medium to high coverage foundation with a matte finish, but it still leaves the skin looking like skin. Dior claims it is suitable for all skin types; I’ve got normal/dry skin and it suits me very well without any flakiness.

Here’s a curious (and rather funny) situation for you guys; after having my makeover, I went home and grabbed my camera to take some photos. Whilst taking some snaps, I checked to see if they were coming out well, but they all looked blurred; How strange! So I went and uploaded them to my computer to investigate this most unusual problem, and I found out that the photos were fine. The thing is, my skin was so airbrushed that it looked as though it was blurred on all the photos! How about that?! :)

What do you think of Dior Airflash Foundation? Do you like the idea of a spray foundation or do you prefer liquid foundations? Have you tried this foundation? Let me know!

I really wanna try this out!
But i always worry that I won’t be able to get the technique down as well as the MUA and it’ll never look as good!

  2. 14 August 2012 / 9:13 am

I know exactly what you mean, but she made it look so easy, that I really thought I could do it as well as she did. Fingers crossed! :) xx

I haven’t heard of this until now, I’m not sure how I feel about spraying my face to apply my foundation! Perhaps I’ll do as you did and head to my nearest counter and ask for a demonstration! xx

  7. 14 August 2012 / 10:56 am

Yeah, have the MUA apply it on you and see how you feel about it. I wasn’t too sure either, but I quite like how easy it was to apply! :) x

  8. 14 August 2012 / 10:57 am

Yeah, it’s a pity that the shade range is so poor, but hopefully they’ll expand this soon! :) xx

I’ve heard about this foundation before, and all girls seem to love it! It really does look amazing from what I can see, but I’m not sure if I like the idea of spraying the foundation on my face. I’m so clumsy…

I know, it does sound like it’s going to be a problem if I’m not careful, but I’ll wait and see if I can apply it as easily as the MUA! :) x

  11. 14 August 2012 / 11:51 am

wow you do look flawless! haven’t heard much about this foundation tbh but it looks amazzzinng on the skin :o xx

the result is amazing, but i’m also not so sure about spray
is it possible to spray it on the hand and to put it on the face with fingers / brush?

A minute ago I was drooling over Liana’s review and now I see yours. AH! I should get it too. The concept of spray is so tempting.

  14. 14 August 2012 / 4:54 pm

Yeah, Amelia was the one who convinced me to get it! The spray is so convenient :) x

  15. 14 August 2012 / 4:55 pm

Yes, the MUA told me it all depends on the amount of coverage you want. You can spray a fine layer and let it set naturally, or buff it into the skin with a brush, or even spray it on your hands and apply to the face :) xx

  16. 14 August 2012 / 4:56 pm

Thank you! I’ve only seen it on a few blogs so far, but it was enough to convince me to get it :) x

for flawless skin, would u recommend the dior? or YSL le teint touche eclat? cause in ur YSL review, ur skin looked really flawless too!!!

  20. 17 August 2012 / 8:15 am

For perfectly flawless skin, the Dior is better. If you want flawless skin with YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat you need to be having a very good skin day to start with, and you’ll also need a bit of powder. The YSL is a much more ‘invisible’ foundation, so your skin will look more natural and won’t cover all imperfectiona. With the Dior you can definitely see the foundation on the skin at close inspection, but it also covers EVERYTHING! It depends whether you want naturally flawless with a few blemishes (YSL) or perfectly flawless but not so natural (Dior).

    Hope that helped! :) xx

  21. 17 August 2012 / 8:16 am

I agree with that. I definitely feels like I’m wasting a lot more product and it’s quite expensive to repurchase so often. I’ll probably save it for more special occasions :) xx

  22. 17 August 2012 / 8:17 am

Haha… I’m so clumsy as well, but so far I’ve been quite good with this foundation. I haven’t stained any clothes, walls or towels. Yet! lol xx

thanks! that’s really helpful! but that makes it even harder to decide which one to get! the Dior has a really hefty price point!

  24. 17 August 2012 / 11:27 am

That’s true. I’d say for everyday use the YSL is more versatile, but the Dior is perfect for evening makeup! xx

Ooh I’m very interested in this foundation except I think the lightest shade will probably be too dark for me.

A friend of mine has this foundation too and she told me she sprays it to her stippling brush then proceeded with the usual stippling technique. Voila! Perfect flawless skin but it looks a lot more natural than sprayed, and uses a lot less product too ;)
