I have to admit that, sadly, pregnant Ysis was not my best look.
Although I loved many things being about pregnant (which I write about here and here), looks-wise, I seem to have been dealt a rubbish hand – hyperpigmentation, spots, redness, dry skin on the 1st trimester, oily on the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, puffy face, swollen everything and a lot of unwanted body hair.
It’s safe to say that ‘the pregnancy glow‘ came nowhere near me. Although some people did comment on my ‘glow’ during pregnancy, I definitely did not feel it. I think they were just trying to be nice!
If you’re one of the unlucky glow-less preggos like I was, fear not. I’m here to share my secret weapons to fake the pregnancy glow! These products gave my skin a lot of light, life and a beautiful, yet natural-looking glow.
YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer (Feelunique)
This transparent gel primer has fine particles of gold shimmer, which sit under your foundation, giving your skin a subtle, natural glow. It goes on like a dream on the skin and it worked amazingly well with the By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Foundation. Review here
Mac Pro Longwear Concealer (Nordstrom)
It’s my go-to heavy duty concealer because it hides everything from dark circles to redness and it doesn’t settle into my fine lines. It lasts a long time on the skin without creasing; it is, honestly, the one product that made me look like my old-self during pregnancy. Review here
Rimmel Kate Sculpting Palette – Golden Bronze (Boots)
This palette solves three of the most common problems during pregnancy; the contouring shade slims down a swollen face, the blush gives life back to a tired, morning sick mum-to-be and the highlighter fakes that pregnancy glow beautifully. The three of them together are a powerful combo to perk up dull complexions!
Urban Decay Half Baked Eyeshadow (Feelunique)
A golden sheen on the eyes goes really well with a glowy complexion. It also hides pigmentation on the eyelids and tired eyes from all the sleepless nights due to a heavy bump, sickness or a baby partying all night in your tummy.
L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick – 632 Greige Amoureux (Boots)
It’s such a wearable satin rose pink lipstick. It catches the light beautifully on my lips and together with the previous products, it ties in perfectly with the fake pregnancy glow.
I hope you found these tips useful to fake the pregnancy glow that all pregnant women seek, and that it also made you feel a bit better about not getting the glow during pregnancy. It’s more common than you think!
If you’re one of the lucky ones who actually experienced this myth that is the pregnancy glow, I hate you! Only joking – but I do really really envy you and your beautiful glowy skin!
