Like everybody else, I have moments when I simply do not feel confident.
The question of ‘how to feel confident‘ has been one I’ve asked myself many times over the years, especially when I was a teenager. I used to feel self-conscious about everything on myself – my nose is too long, my boobs are too big, my hair is too curly, my legs are too short. And feeling rubbish about myself had a really negative impact on my self-confidence.
Of course, we all know that confidence ultimately comes from within, but with a little bit of external help, I was able to find ways to feel more beautiful and better about myself, which in turn, helped to boost my confidence.
Here a few of my tips to feel confident and beautiful. These are things I practice as often as I can because I think they help me look my best, feel my best and keep a positive mindset towards my life.
TIPS TO FEEL CONFIDENT AND BEAUTIFUL
1. Enhance your positives
The more you talk about or focus on the things you don’t like about yourself, the more you draw attention to them. So, find the things that you like in yourself and make them the centre of attention.
I love my smile, and I’ve always been blessed with reasonably white teeth. But my tea addiction tends to stain my teeth a little bit, so I try to stay on top of it by using a whitening toothpaste like the Colgate Expert White Toothpaste, which helps to remove stains caused by food and drink.
Lots of people compliment me on my smile when I use this toothpaste frequently, which makes me feel really confident and proud to display my pearly whites!
In order to enhance my smile even more, I like to put on my favourite lipstick, the Soap & Glory Lipstick in the shade ‘The Missing Pink’; it’s a pearlescent pink with a hint of lilac, which looks unique and I think suits my skin tone really well.
I also like my skin, and the fact that I don’t have any major concerns to deal with on a daily basis.
However, not getting good night sleeps since having my 1-year-old son, has meant that sometimes my dark circles are totally out of control!
To make me look less tired (even if I still feel knackered!), I use my favourite base products: the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer and the Mac Prep+Prime Highlighter in Light Boost. I know it’s such a small thing, but it helps me feel so much more confident when my dark circles aren’t so evident and my skin looks perfected, well-rested and glowy.
2. Do something that makes you happy every day
I believe that feeling happy goes hand-in-hand with feeling confident. If you can find some time in your day, even 5 minutes, to do something that makes you happy, you will be fuelling that confidence fire every single day.
I am currently making and effort to find some time to catch up with my favourite TV shows. It makes me feel so happy to watch something I really enjoy!
Other things that make me happy are tidying up workspace, playing with my son and getting my email inbox down to zero. I’m still working on that last one, but doesn’t it feel so good to see that ‘Woohoo! you’ve read all the messages in your inbox.‘ message? :)
3. Have some fresh air
A bit of fresh air does wonders for your mind and for your body. Going out for a walk gives me some perspective and a sense that I can achieve all my goals and dreams.
There is nothing more confidence-boosting than breathing in some fresh air and realising that there is so much good in your life and that you are going to rock this world! Five minutes of fresh air is all that takes to reset a negative mind and turn it into a positive and confident one.
I appreciate so much more the good things in me and in my life when I go out for a walk and clear my mind.
4. Do more of what you do well
You know that thing that you know you are really good at? If you need a confidence boost, go and do it now. It works every time for me!
There’s something quite satisfying about doing something and knowing that you’re going to succeed and do well. It’s a quick and instant pick-me-up.
It could be anything – playing chess against your cat, organising your husband’s pants and socks the way that only you can do it, teaching your kids the basics of Maths and feeling like a world-renowned mathematician.
I like to take online English language tests and exams and see how well I do on them. And if I’m having a particularly confidence-lacking day, I do the one for beginners – no chance of doing badly on these! :)
I hope you found these simple tips useful to help you feel more confident and happier about yourself.
