The Perfect Pink: MAC Lipstick in Plink! vs. ELF Lip Balm in Peaceful Pink

13 July 2011

Hello ladies!

Don’t you just love it when you find a good duplicate for an expensive product you own? Well, this happened to me recently, and that’s what inspired me to write this review. I will talk about MAC’s Lipstick in Plink! and ELF’s Conditioning Lip Balm in Peaceful Pink, which are both light pink and amazing!

Just as a little background information, for lips I prefer lighter tones because I think it brightens up my face and it goes well with my olive skin. So almost every lip product I own is either light pink or nude (boring, I know, but I can’t resist a pretty pink!), therefore, I have tried quite a lot of lipsticks, lip glosses, lip balms, etc, to find my Perfect Pink (PP).

The PP needs to have a balance of price, quality and pigmentation. Two months ago I thought I had found the PP and was over the moon with joy when I bought a MAC Lipstick in Plink!.

It was of great quality, not too drying on my lips and the pigmentation was spot on; however, I still wasn’t convinced that I had to fork out £13.50 every time I wanted to repurchase my PP, and the search for my PP continued.

Fast forward to yesterday when I got a package through the post with all the products I ordered from the ELF (haul post coming up soon!), and the first one I opened was the Conditioning Lip Balm in Peaceful Pink with SPF 15, which costs £3.50.

The first thing I noticed was the lovely square shaped acrylic jar with a black lid, which looks very expensive, but it is slightly misleading because when you open it, you see that you don’t get as much product as you thought you would.

But the clearest sign that I had found a serious contender for my MAC lipstick was when I applied the ELF lip balm on my lips. It’s a rich light pink colour, incredibly moisturising and it even feels as though your lips are slightly numb; I’m guessing it’s because of its relieving and soothing properties for dry, chapped and cracked lips. It also has SPF 15 in it which will protect your lips against sunburn.

How similar in colour are they?! Because the ELF product is a lip balm it is a lot more moisturising than MAC’s lipstick, and it fills in all the lines on my lips, which I thought was amazing!

This ELF lip balm ticks all the boxes, especially considering it only costs £3.50, so this is now my new PP. I’m sure I’ll find lots and lots of pink lip products as time goes by, so we shall see who can beat ELF’s Conditioning Lip Balm!

Which one would you buy, girls? Let me know on a comment below!

I have both and I prefer the MAC one, mainly because of staying power. Pretty good dupe though!

    Adoro essas opções baratinhas!!!
Achei que o da Elf ficou mais bonito e natural, menos brilhoso!!
Só resta saber se a durabilidade é boa…e aí??

Not the pregnancy announcement I had in mind, but… we’re expecting baby number 3! ❤️🙏🏻 I’m 11 weeks pregnant today and this is probably the most fitting photo to describe my first trimester so far: hyperemesis gravidarum.

I was going to wait until I was feeling better, until I had a bump to show, until I could put some makeup on… but who knows when that will be? I’ve lost over 15lbs, been admitted to hospital twice on IV fluids for dehydration, spent my birthday (and weeks on end!) in bed and have been put on so many meds I’ve lost count.

Today, as I was leaving the hospital on new meds and after a bag of fluids - feeling like a human being for the first time in over a month - I decided that writing this post, although cathartic for me, may be just what another HG sufferer needs to read to make them feel a little bit less alone.

This is not the beautiful “surprise” pregnancy announcement we’re used to seeing, but for the 1-3% of women who suffer with HG, it may be the only one you can manage.

So, this is where I’ve been hiding. Baby is doing well, mama not so well. But I’m hanging in there and taking one day at a time!

Baby is due September 2021! ❤️

“Anxiety is also feeling like you have no contro “Anxiety is also feeling like you have no control over your life and there’s a knot if your stomach. You feel like your world is crashing down around you and you’re expected to sit there and act like you’re fine.”

Yesterday was a right old day - I wasn’t myself. I needed silence to reset... but didn’t get it. So I carried on not sounding like myself, being curt, snappy, sometimes a bit hurtful.

Do you know when you just can’t snap out of it? You take a deep breath and promise you will react differently to a stressful situation, but a minute later you catch yourself spilling over before you even realise the pan was boiling.

I took some time to reflect in the evening and exposed everything that was causing me frustration, stress, anxiety and worry. Guess what the common denominator was?

A feeling of not being in control.

I’ve always needed some sort of order and control to feel like myself and right now we’re positivity not in control of anything really, are we?

I’m glad I can recognise the triggers for my anxiety and today I made sure I established some form of control first thing in the morning to give my day the best chance to be a good one.

So I cleaned the house, I made sure the puppy had plenty of naps, I scheduled 1-2-1 time with both kids and that made me feel so much better.

I know I only tackled the consequences, not the causes of my anxiety and my need to feel in control, but that was enough for me today.

There’s - always - more work to be done, but accepting the small wins is part of it.

How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind right now? It’s so important to check in with ourselves instead of ignoring how we feel and burying our heads in housework, jobs, kids and life admin.

💫 What do I need?

That’s a good way to start. I’ll list a few things I need right now. They don’t all have to be grand things, sometimes I only need the smallest things.

1. I need to wash my hair.
2. I need silence.
3. I need to rearrange some rooms in the house (don’t know why I need this, but I really do).
4. I need to zero my inbox.
5. I need uninterrupted sleep.
6. I need a good hearty meal.
7. I need to exercise.
8. I need to smile.
9. I need to see my mum.
10. I need to put my needs first.

If I were to pick just one need right this second, I’d say number 2. I’m normally really sensitive to loud noises, but today... dear me! Even a slightly louder whisper was annoying me! 🙈
I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jeal I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jealous of this cosy situation! 😍 Oh Benji boy, you’re bringing us so much joy already! 🐶🤎
