Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick – Swatches and Review

Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick – (left – Pink Pout / right – Smoked Peach)

I’ve never owned any Revlon lipsticks, so when I saw pictures of the Super Lustrous Matte Lipsticks I thought it was about time I tried some, especially as I’m very into matte lipsticks lately. The packaging is very simple, but it definitely doesn’t look or feel cheap. I love the fact that the top of the lid is see through, so you can easily see what shade you’ve got without having to open the lippie. Revlon claims these lipsticks are very creamy, highly pigmented, lightweight, not drying or cakey on the lips. I have to say I agree with some of the claims, but not all of them.

They are definitely matte, creamy, lightweight and highly pigmented; not the best I’ve ever seen, but pretty good. However, they were super-duper drying on my lips! It looked cakey even with a lip balm underneath, so I wasn’t too happy with that. I picked the two shades I thought were more interesting: Pink Pout (002) and Smoked Peach (013).

Pink Pout (002) looks like a cool pink colour, a bit like MAC Please Me, but in fact it is a baby pink shade. I was a little bit disappointed by this shade as I’m not a fan of baby pink lipsticks. It also enhanced every single dry spots of my lips and it didn’t go well with my skin tone.

Smoked Peach (013) is an orange-peach shade. I don’t own any peach lipsticks, and now I know why I’ve never and never will own one again. Apart from the clear fact that my lips look 10 times drier than they normally are, this shade made my teeth look yellow and it made me look ill. Maybe it would suit someone with a lighter skin tone, but on me it just looked cheap.

Regrettably, I will not be purchasing anymore of these lipsticks as I didn’t like the formulation and the two shades I got where totally wrong for me. And they don’t come cheap as well with a £7.49 price tag! I was expecting to love them as much as I love all my Rimmel lipsticks, but that didn’t happen and I’ll probably just stick to Rimmel lipsticks next time I’m in Boots!

What do you think of the Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipsticks? Have you ever tried them? What’s your favourite shade?
