YSL Glossy Stain (Review and Swatches)

23 April 2012

YSL Rouge Put Couture Glossy Stain, £22.50 | House of Fraser, Selfridges, Harrods, Debenhams, Boots

About 8 months ago I bought my first YSL lipstick (review here) and I knew there was no turning back from that point on. Despite being put off by the brand’s hefty price tags, the quality and presentation of YSL products are pretty much as good as it gets. So last month, on my way back from Brazil, I made two more YSL purchases: Touche Eclat (review here) and another lipstick (review to come!). But the shopaholic inside me had to go and buy some more, and last week I spotted the super hyped Glossy Stains… I couldn’t resist!

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain is a lip stain with the texture and shine of a lipgloss. The collection comprises of 19 shades ranging from nudes, corals and pinks to reds, mauves and violets. Texture-wise, it’s sticky and moisturising and super hydrating on dry lips. I suffer from really dry and chapped lips, and this product completely camouflaged any dry patches I had.

I chose shade #15 Rose Vinyl, a bright rose pink colour on the swatch, but when blended the colour is softened to subtle rose shade which is much more appealing to my taste. With one coat on the lips, the first thing I noticed was that after a few seconds the gloss sets into the lips like a proper stain, leaving an awful acetone-like strong smell and feeling. Having said that, the smell does go away, and with a second coat the stain revealed a sticky, glossy finish that stays put on the lips. Granted, this product won’t last you an entire day, but it does last a good few hours without loosing the shiny texture, which I thought was pretty impressive.

To me, the selling point of the Glossy Stain is the shiny effect that lasts a lot more than any other lip gloss I’ve owned. Does it justify the price tag? I’m not sure, but I have reached for it almost every day since I bought it, and it sure makes me feel special and pampered in a way only YSL knows how to do. For now, I won’t go crazy buying shade after shade, but maybe in the future when I have lots of money to spare.

Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Rouge Put Couture Glossy Stain is available NOW from House of Fraser, Selfridges, Harrods, Debenhams and Boots, priced at £22.50 (but Harrods charges an extra 50p, just because they can!).

Au revoir!

This is such a beautiful colour. This is bit trivial, but I do wish the packaging was gold all over though haha x

Really like the shade! I’m thinkin about getting one but not sure which color! I like the fact that you put up “lip” swatches instead of just the arm swatches other people do!

Did you guess it right? I got it totally wrong, again! 😆 We couldn’t be happier and it’s exactly what both James and Bella wanted. Our little tie-breaker! 🥰 #16weekspregnant #babynumber3 #genderreveal

It’s been a little while since my last update. Last week was tough, but this week I’ve started to see the light at the end of the Hyperemesis tunnel.

I’ve been able to keep most of my food down and I can now drink sips of water. Honestly that is such an amazing feeling!

I’m still being sick and still limited on what I can eat, but everyday I tolerate a few more smells and food.

My cravings are so weird! Full of things I’ve never bothered with before - Brazilian hot dogs, McDonalds Fillet O’ Fish, tinned peaches, tuna mayo jacket potato.

I’m still very weak and out of breath if I walk around - my body is playing catch up with the last 2/3 months of living on barely nothing.

I’m into my 14th week and I honestly feel so hopeful right now. ❤️

Ad: Today is International Women’s Day and this Ad: Today is International Women’s Day and this year #LEGO are celebrating the women of the future; our imaginative, creative, inspirational little girls!

We were asked to take part in the campaign, replicating a classic LEGO ad from 1981, which shows a little girl proudly holding up her LEGO creation.

So when I asked Bella what she wanted to make, no surprises there, she chose a princess castle!

I feel like this reflects her personality so much; she’s sweet and kind, but also really knows her mind and is super determined to do what she wants, how she wants it! 💗 Didn’t she do well?!

If you want to take part and recreate the ad with your amazing daughters, you can submit a photo at LEGO.com/FutureBuilders.

I’ve stopped losing weight! 🙏🏻 It feels so I’ve stopped losing weight! 🙏🏻 It feels so good to step on the scales and not see those numbers going down anymore! I worried every single day for weeks, especially when my weight loss was so quick. So today, I put shorts on for the first time in a month (took it off right after the photo, as I feel so uncomfortable with anything around my hips or waist), pushed my belly out and registered that milestone. Hyperemesis is not in my past yet, but my new meds are at least helping me keep some food down. That’s a lot of progress from a week ago! ❤️

Not the pregnancy announcement I had in mind, but… we’re expecting baby number 3! ❤️🙏🏻 I’m 11 weeks pregnant today and this is probably the most fitting photo to describe my first trimester so far: hyperemesis gravidarum.

I was going to wait until I was feeling better, until I had a bump to show, until I could put some makeup on… but who knows when that will be? I’ve lost over 15lbs, been admitted to hospital twice on IV fluids for dehydration, spent my birthday (and weeks on end!) in bed and have been put on so many meds I’ve lost count.

Today, as I was leaving the hospital on new meds and after a bag of fluids - feeling like a human being for the first time in over a month - I decided that writing this post, although cathartic for me, may be just what another HG sufferer needs to read to make them feel a little bit less alone.

This is not the beautiful “surprise” pregnancy announcement we’re used to seeing, but for the 1-3% of women who suffer with HG, it may be the only one you can manage.

So, this is where I’ve been hiding. Baby is doing well, mama not so well. But I’m hanging in there and taking one day at a time!

Baby is due September 2021! ❤️
