MUA Lip Boom by Alexandra Burke, £3

MUA (Makeup Academy) has partnered with X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke to design Lip Boom, a new 4 in 1 lip product that contains a lipstick on one end and a highlighting lip gloss on the other end. Here are the 4 looks you can achieve with this clever product:

  • Matte: lipstick on its own
  • Sheer: highlighter on its own
  • Volume: lipstick with highlighter at the centre of the lips
  • Glossy: lipstick with highlighter all over

I love the innovative concept! The packaging is a little bit on the chunky side and it feels a bit delicate, but I suppose it’s acceptable for a 4 in 1 product. I also love how the Lip Booms are all cleverly named after famous things that Alexandra says. The ones I’m reviewing today are called ‘Cheeky!’ and ‘Bring It’.

‘Cheeky!’ comes with a barbie pink matte lipstick and a pink lipgloss with silver glitter. The lipstick felt a bit dry on the lips. The application wasn’t smooth and it made my lips look a bit flaky. Be careful when applying the glitter because it literally goes everywhere! I think this shade looks great on paler skin tones. Personally, it washed me out a bit, although when I put the gloss on it looked a bit better.

‘Bring It’ comes with a matte blood red lipstick and a copper-toned gloss with gold glitter. Now this lipstick absolutely blew my mind away! The pigmentation is superb and compared to ‘Cheeky!’, this one wasn’t drying at all; in fact, it was quite moisturising and it glided effortlessly along my lips. It’s definitely one of prettiest red lipsticks I own. When I applied the highlighter at the centre of the lips I was amazed at how they immediately looked fuller.

Overall, I’m impressed! I can see these flying off Superdrug’s shelves when it’s launched on 9 May 2012, so make a note of this date and don’t miss out. The whole collection looks promising, but beware of the subtle differences in texture and colour payoff amongst the Lip Booms.

MUA Lip Boom by Alexandra Burke will be available in Superdrug and on the MUA website (muastore.co.uk) from 9 May 2012, priced at £3 each.

Au revoir!

Ysis
