Summer is (almost) over here in the UK, but I still haven’t stopped searching for the perfect cheekbone highlighter for a Summer Glow. I’ve been obsessed with finding a product (powder or liquid) that will make me look something like my girl crush Blake Lively. She always has the ‘lit from within’ look and it all looks very natural and effortless. My first attempt at finding the perfect highlighter was this mono eyeshadow from Maybelline.

Maybelline Eyestudio Mono Eyeshadow in 'Beige Nude'

The Maybelline Eyestudio Mono Eyeshadow in ‘Beige Nude’ is a shimmery champagne colour with a lovely warm and pearly finish. It has a buttery soft consistency and it applies like a dream! So smooth and with a great colour payoff, this really is a great little eyeshadow. I bought this thinking I could use it as a highlighter on top of my cheekbones, as I find highlighters such as Benefit High Beam are too cool-toned for my skin. I’m still undecided if I like this as a highlighter, or if I’ll use this as an eyeshadow.

As an eyeshadow, I can’t fault this product. It is very comparable to MAC Nylon eyeshadow (HERE), which I have been using for years as a brow bone highlighter and all over the lid on its own for a pop of colour. But as a cheekbone highlighter, ‘Beige Nude’ tends to fade and leave little bits of glitter instead of a natural glowy look.

I guess I can’t really say I’m disappointed by this product because it is an eyeshadow, so as an eyeshadow it’s great and it does the job brilliantly. The fact that I wanted it to work as a cheekbone highlighter and it didn’t work, is only my fault for wanting more than the product can give me! But that means my search for the perfect cheekbone highlighter continues…

What do you think of the Maybelline Eyestudio Mono Eyeshadow in ‘Beige Nude’? Which cheekbone highlighter would you recommend?

I’d recommend Sun Rush for a bright, sunkissed look..I mix a bit of it with my foundation sometimes and the effect is lovely as well :)

Snow day!! ☃️ We have two very excited childre Snow day!! ☃️ We have two very excited children and a puppy, ready some snow fun today! Might as well make the most of it, because this is probably all we’re going to get. Oh I do love snow! 😍❄️
“Anxiety is also feeling like you have no contro “Anxiety is also feeling like you have no control over your life and there’s a knot if your stomach. You feel like your world is crashing down around you and you’re expected to sit there and act like you’re fine.”

Yesterday was a right old day - I wasn’t myself. I needed silence to reset... but didn’t get it. So I carried on not sounding like myself, being curt, snappy, sometimes a bit hurtful.

Do you know when you just can’t snap out of it? You take a deep breath and promise you will react differently to a stressful situation, but a minute later you catch yourself spilling over before you even realise the pan was boiling.

I took some time to reflect in the evening and exposed everything that was causing me frustration, stress, anxiety and worry. Guess what the common denominator was?

A feeling of not being in control.

I’ve always needed some sort of order and control to feel like myself and right now we’re positivity not in control of anything really, are we?

I’m glad I can recognise the triggers for my anxiety and today I made sure I established some form of control first thing in the morning to give my day the best chance to be a good one.

So I cleaned the house, I made sure the puppy had plenty of naps, I scheduled 1-2-1 time with both kids and that made me feel so much better.

I know I only tackled the consequences, not the causes of my anxiety and my need to feel in control, but that was enough for me today.

There’s - always - more work to be done, but accepting the small wins is part of it.

How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind right now? It’s so important to check in with ourselves instead of ignoring how we feel and burying our heads in housework, jobs, kids and life admin.

💫 What do I need?

That’s a good way to start. I’ll list a few things I need right now. They don’t all have to be grand things, sometimes I only need the smallest things.

1. I need to wash my hair.
2. I need silence.
3. I need to rearrange some rooms in the house (don’t know why I need this, but I really do).
4. I need to zero my inbox.
5. I need uninterrupted sleep.
6. I need a good hearty meal.
7. I need to exercise.
8. I need to smile.
9. I need to see my mum.
10. I need to put my needs first.

If I were to pick just one need right this second, I’d say number 2. I’m normally really sensitive to loud noises, but today... dear me! Even a slightly louder whisper was annoying me! 🙈
I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jeal I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jealous of this cosy situation! 😍 Oh Benji boy, you’re bringing us so much joy already! 🐶🤎

Trust the process ✨ I chose this phrase to repre Trust the process ✨ I chose this phrase to represent 2021 for me and it couldn’t be more fitting.

Every time I find myself thinking things won’t work out before even giving it a chance, I repeat to myself “trust the process”. It gives me the strength I need to keep going and just like that... things do work out. Always.

This lockdown has been so much harder than the first one for me. How have you found it?

I thought it was going to be the same or easier than the first time because we’d done it before, but it’s actually been so much more testing.

The only way I’m getting through it is by 💫 trusting the process 💫
