Naked 3 Makeup Tutorial: Trick, Nooner & Blackheart

9 April 2014

Urban Decay Naked 3 Makeup Tutorial

I’ve had a little over 2 weeks with my Urban Decay Naked 3, and although I haven’t been in the mood for wearing makeup recently, nothing puts me back into makeup-mood like a pretty palette; and if it’s rose gold, that’s even more convincing! Now, I know better than to bore you with the specifics of this palette, so if you’re looking for a good in-depth review, check out Adrienne’s review at The Sunday Girl. However, if your goal is to create makeup looks with your Naked 3, I’ve got a little bit of inspiration for you and a simple Urban Decay Naked 3 makeup tutorial. If you like this one, let me know on the comments and I’ll share other looks you can create with your Naked 3. Let’s go!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Makeup Tutorial

Start by spraying some Mac Fix + on a fluffy blending brush like the Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush; this will give you a better colour payoff on some of the sheerer eyeshadows. Dip your damp brush into Trick and swipe it all over the eyelid up to the crease. If the colour doesn’t look strong yet, don’t worry, we’ll go over it again later.

Next, dip the tip of a flat eyeshadow brush, like the Mac 239, into Blackheart. Be careful with this shade, as it is the most pigmented eyeshadow of the palette, and you only need a very small amount. After tapping off the excess, gently place the brush at a 45 degree angle on the outer edge of your eye, like when you’re doing the wing of a winged eyeliner. Use a clean blending brush like the Mac 217 to blend that line, keeping the colour all on the outer edge of the eye, like you’re softening the line of a cat eye flick.

With another clean blending brush, create some definition into the crease with Nooner. That will serve to pull Trick and Backheart together, whilst keeping both colours separate. Nooner is the perfect transition colour and it’s super easy to blend.

Now you’re almost done; line your upper and lower lash lines with Backheart using a small angled brush, like the Mac 263, and soften the line until it’s so faded that it blends seamlessly into a smokey eye. Using you index finger, go over with Trick and intensify the rose gold colour on the centre of your eyelids. Finally, dab a little bit of Strange on your brow bone to highlight, and that’s everything for the eyes!

The rest was pretty basic, but I’ll list everything I used below, in case you fancy recreating the entire look. I tried to keep everything very pretty and feminine, which I think is a theme that suits the Naked 3 palette. One thing I did today that I don’t normally do, is contour the sides of my nose, and I liked it a lot! Let me know if you want to see how I did that, and I’ll be happy to oblige :)

I really like this look and am going to try it. Since I bought the Naked 3 I’ve had sort of a love/hate relationship with it and lately it’s been more hate than love…this is beautiful and should spring me around to love again. I have yet to try the shadows damp and I think that’s the trick.

Oh, and I know you like the 263 but the 266 is like the BEST small angle brush ever ;)

Thank you! :) It’s quite a difficult palette to work with, because the colours can look really wrong if you’re not careful, but I think I’ve found a few makeup looks to do with it, and I’ll definitely share my tricks! :) x

Not the pregnancy announcement I had in mind, but… we’re expecting baby number 3! ❤️🙏🏻 I’m 11 weeks pregnant today and this is probably the most fitting photo to describe my first trimester so far: hyperemesis gravidarum.

I was going to wait until I was feeling better, until I had a bump to show, until I could put some makeup on… but who knows when that will be? I’ve lost over 15lbs, been admitted to hospital twice on IV fluids for dehydration, spent my birthday (and weeks on end!) in bed and have been put on so many meds I’ve lost count.

Today, as I was leaving the hospital on new meds and after a bag of fluids - feeling like a human being for the first time in over a month - I decided that writing this post, although cathartic for me, may be just what another HG sufferer needs to read to make them feel a little bit less alone.

This is not the beautiful “surprise” pregnancy announcement we’re used to seeing, but for the 1-3% of women who suffer with HG, it may be the only one you can manage.

So, this is where I’ve been hiding. Baby is doing well, mama not so well. But I’m hanging in there and taking one day at a time!

Baby is due September 2021! ❤️

Snow day!! ☃️ We have two very excited childre Snow day!! ☃️ We have two very excited children and a puppy, ready some snow fun today! Might as well make the most of it, because this is probably all we’re going to get. Oh I do love snow! 😍❄️
“Anxiety is also feeling like you have no contro “Anxiety is also feeling like you have no control over your life and there’s a knot if your stomach. You feel like your world is crashing down around you and you’re expected to sit there and act like you’re fine.”

Yesterday was a right old day - I wasn’t myself. I needed silence to reset... but didn’t get it. So I carried on not sounding like myself, being curt, snappy, sometimes a bit hurtful.

Do you know when you just can’t snap out of it? You take a deep breath and promise you will react differently to a stressful situation, but a minute later you catch yourself spilling over before you even realise the pan was boiling.

I took some time to reflect in the evening and exposed everything that was causing me frustration, stress, anxiety and worry. Guess what the common denominator was?

A feeling of not being in control.

I’ve always needed some sort of order and control to feel like myself and right now we’re positivity not in control of anything really, are we?

I’m glad I can recognise the triggers for my anxiety and today I made sure I established some form of control first thing in the morning to give my day the best chance to be a good one.

So I cleaned the house, I made sure the puppy had plenty of naps, I scheduled 1-2-1 time with both kids and that made me feel so much better.

I know I only tackled the consequences, not the causes of my anxiety and my need to feel in control, but that was enough for me today.

There’s - always - more work to be done, but accepting the small wins is part of it.

How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind right now? It’s so important to check in with ourselves instead of ignoring how we feel and burying our heads in housework, jobs, kids and life admin.

💫 What do I need?

That’s a good way to start. I’ll list a few things I need right now. They don’t all have to be grand things, sometimes I only need the smallest things.

1. I need to wash my hair.
2. I need silence.
3. I need to rearrange some rooms in the house (don’t know why I need this, but I really do).
4. I need to zero my inbox.
5. I need uninterrupted sleep.
6. I need a good hearty meal.
7. I need to exercise.
8. I need to smile.
9. I need to see my mum.
10. I need to put my needs first.

If I were to pick just one need right this second, I’d say number 2. I’m normally really sensitive to loud noises, but today... dear me! Even a slightly louder whisper was annoying me! 🙈
I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jeal I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jealous of this cosy situation! 😍 Oh Benji boy, you’re bringing us so much joy already! 🐶🤎
