HOW TO: Flawless Face With Luxury Makeup (+ Budget Alternatives)

Flawless Face with Luxury Makeup
STEP BY STEP BELOW

We all want to achieve that Flawless Face Makeup Look, either it be for a wedding, for a photoshoot, for a graduation, or just because we feel like looking polished. To me, the ‘flawless look’ becomes even more special when I use my favourite luxury makeup products. Yes, some of them are ridiculously expensive, but they also perform amazingly well. Convincing your partner, best friend, mum or even yourself that you MUST have them… now that can be a bit of a task!

This ‘flawless face’ makeup base routine is what I do to fake perfect airbrushed skin. I deliberately didn’t finish my makeup for the purpose of demonstrating how the base products look on their own; the only two extra things I added to my ‘After’ picture were eyebrows and a bit of lip balm.

If you were to recreate this look using the same luxury makeup products, it would cost you a whopping £155.50! I almost fell off my chair when I added it all up, so I made sure to include budget alternatives to all the products, which would get you a similar end result, but would only set you back a more reasonable £30.25.

All of the luxury products I used and its budget alternatives are listed at the bottom of the post, along with any reviews that I have done and where you can buy them. Enjoy the picture tutorial below!

Starting with moisturiser, I like the La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Daily Moisturiser because it is light enough to be used under makeup, but still very hydrating on my extremely dry skin, and it sets rather quickly. The addition of SPF 30 is very welcome, although it may give you some flash-back if you’re going to be exposed to flash photography.

For primer, the Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer is stunning! It truly does blur my pores, just like magic. I only apply it to my forehead, nose and cheeks, where my pores are more visible. What I love about this primer is that it is slightly tinted, it mattifies and brightens my face, whilst the skincare ingredients in its formula look after my skin behind the scenes.

My foundation is an old favourite, the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Nothing beats this foundation, in my opinion. It has a beautiful medium to high coverage with a matte luminous finish and an all-day lasting power.

A concealer that covers all sins, lasts all day and doesn’t crease on me is the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. It feels lightweight on the skin and I can use it on my dark circles, redness and pigmentation. If you have combination to oily skin or lots of fine lines, I recommend the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer instead, as this one is more matte than the Nars Concealer, which needs to be set with a powder.

Speaking of powder, the Giorgio Armani Micro-Fil Loose Powder gives me a light-diffused matte effect. The micro shine particles are so fine that you can’t see it on the skin, but it adds plenty of brightness to the face. The finished result is subtle, not at all heavy, setting all of my base makeup nicely to last all-day long.

Thank you for this tutorial Ysis! I would love to try the Giorgio Armani luminous foundation, so I hope that I can put my hands on a sample!
Can I ask you what method do you use for facial epilation? I have your same skin colour, but every time I try waxing, it leaves a “white” cast on the skin (especially on the upper lip).

You’re welcome! :) I only remove upper lip hair with tweezers. I’ve tried waxing but I just didn’t find it easy enough. I’ve been tweezing for years and although it was slightly uncomfortable at first, I’m totally used to it now and I hardly feel anything! x

Not the pregnancy announcement I had in mind, but… we’re expecting baby number 3! ❤️🙏🏻 I’m 11 weeks pregnant today and this is probably the most fitting photo to describe my first trimester so far: hyperemesis gravidarum.

I was going to wait until I was feeling better, until I had a bump to show, until I could put some makeup on… but who knows when that will be? I’ve lost over 15lbs, been admitted to hospital twice on IV fluids for dehydration, spent my birthday (and weeks on end!) in bed and have been put on so many meds I’ve lost count.

Today, as I was leaving the hospital on new meds and after a bag of fluids - feeling like a human being for the first time in over a month - I decided that writing this post, although cathartic for me, may be just what another HG sufferer needs to read to make them feel a little bit less alone.

This is not the beautiful “surprise” pregnancy announcement we’re used to seeing, but for the 1-3% of women who suffer with HG, it may be the only one you can manage.

So, this is where I’ve been hiding. Baby is doing well, mama not so well. But I’m hanging in there and taking one day at a time!

Baby is due September 2021! ❤️

Snow day!! ☃️ We have two very excited childre Snow day!! ☃️ We have two very excited children and a puppy, ready some snow fun today! Might as well make the most of it, because this is probably all we’re going to get. Oh I do love snow! 😍❄️
“Anxiety is also feeling like you have no contro “Anxiety is also feeling like you have no control over your life and there’s a knot if your stomach. You feel like your world is crashing down around you and you’re expected to sit there and act like you’re fine.”

Yesterday was a right old day - I wasn’t myself. I needed silence to reset... but didn’t get it. So I carried on not sounding like myself, being curt, snappy, sometimes a bit hurtful.

Do you know when you just can’t snap out of it? You take a deep breath and promise you will react differently to a stressful situation, but a minute later you catch yourself spilling over before you even realise the pan was boiling.

I took some time to reflect in the evening and exposed everything that was causing me frustration, stress, anxiety and worry. Guess what the common denominator was?

A feeling of not being in control.

I’ve always needed some sort of order and control to feel like myself and right now we’re positivity not in control of anything really, are we?

I’m glad I can recognise the triggers for my anxiety and today I made sure I established some form of control first thing in the morning to give my day the best chance to be a good one.

So I cleaned the house, I made sure the puppy had plenty of naps, I scheduled 1-2-1 time with both kids and that made me feel so much better.

I know I only tackled the consequences, not the causes of my anxiety and my need to feel in control, but that was enough for me today.

There’s - always - more work to be done, but accepting the small wins is part of it.

How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind How are you all feeling? Really, how’s your mind right now? It’s so important to check in with ourselves instead of ignoring how we feel and burying our heads in housework, jobs, kids and life admin.

💫 What do I need?

That’s a good way to start. I’ll list a few things I need right now. They don’t all have to be grand things, sometimes I only need the smallest things.

1. I need to wash my hair.
2. I need silence.
3. I need to rearrange some rooms in the house (don’t know why I need this, but I really do).
4. I need to zero my inbox.
5. I need uninterrupted sleep.
6. I need a good hearty meal.
7. I need to exercise.
8. I need to smile.
9. I need to see my mum.
10. I need to put my needs first.

If I were to pick just one need right this second, I’d say number 2. I’m normally really sensitive to loud noises, but today... dear me! Even a slightly louder whisper was annoying me! 🙈
I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jeal I mean... I can barely see him but I’m well jealous of this cosy situation! 😍 Oh Benji boy, you’re bringing us so much joy already! 🐶🤎
