Feeling well and truly blessed today 💛

I’ve dropped some balls this week. ⁣ The house

I’ve dropped some balls this week.
⁣
The house is a mess, the bathrooms need cleaning, I can’t remember when I last mopped the floors!
⁣
But... (and this is an important “but”) I feel fine.
⁣
I used those precious resources of time and patience for playing with my kids, connecting my husband, stimulating my brain and working on things I’ve been putting off for a long time.
⁣
Done was definitely better than perfect this week. Good enough was good enough. And we are all still standing.
⁣

The news is making me feel anxious again.

I definitely feel a bit uneasy right now. I’ve had to take a step back from being informed to focus on being present.

All this uncertainty, the what ifs, take our mind away to the present, and if you have a prolific imagination like I do, you always end up in a worst-case-scenario future!

💫 Focus on what you can control right now, whatever that may be.

Just because you’re feeling guilty, it doesn’t mean you are guilty. 💫

A little mantra to help you make sense of the idea that you are not your feelings. You are not your thoughts. You are not what you do.
⁣
I feel awful for not playing with my kids yesterday... doesn’t mean I’m an awful mum.
⁣
I think I’ve disappointed my family... doesn’t mean I am a disappointment.
⁣
I didn’t do enough today... doesn’t mean I’m not enough.
⁣
Validade your feelings, let yourself feel them but don’t confuse them with facts.
⁣
If this resonates with you, perhaps have a little think about what feelings and thoughts you may have turned into beliefs, then question if there’s any actual truth to them.
⁣
Let go of what you think or feel it may be true and ground yourself on facts, what you know to be true.
⁣

(I wrote this whilst flicking through photos from a year ago and feeling guilty for not being about to give my children a year without pandemic worries. If you feel like that too, remember that’s completely underserved guilt.)

Our brave hearts ♥️

I’ve been drawing a little heart on mine and the kids’ wrists before they go to school.
⁣
We call it our ‘brave hearts’. Every morning, at drop off, we supercharge it!
⁣
So, whenever one of us is missing home, feeling sad or not so confident, we can give our brave hearts a little tap to remind us to be brave and reassure us that we are always there for each other.
⁣
It’s worked a treat for my kids!
⁣
We had a few tears this morning from Bella, so we made sure to supercharge her brave heart with as much love as possible. She wiped her tears and said to me “I’m going to be super brave, mummy.” 😭😍
⁣
These little things mean the world to me; being able to soothe their worries in a way that feels kind, loving and without invalidating their feelings. This was just what I needed this morning to lift up my spirits! 💕

Check in on your needs.

Remember we can only give what we’ve got, so if you’re running yourself to the ground, you’re likely not giving your children the mum they deserve.

Whenever I’m struggling with taking care of myself, I always remind myself that my kids deserve the best of me, not what’s left of me.

Save this as a gentle reminder that you also need rest, healthy food, entertainment, comfort and all the things your kids need! 💛
