I rarely talk about books here.

But this one is helping me understand and address something that had become annoying “background noise” or “just the way I am”. I now know it’s anxiety. I feel anxious just writing this!

I already love so much of what @annamathur talks about on her Instagram, so her book slid straight into my @amazon basket as soon as I heard about it and it’s been one my best purchases.

I see so much of myself in Anna’s words and find myself saying “that’s anxiety? I thought it was just me being an overthinker!”. All of a sudden, a lot of how I parent or respond to situations makes more sense.

My favourite thing about Anna’s book is not only how she acknowledges these seemingly mundane concerns, but how she helps us confront them for what they are too.

I’m determined to learn more about how to best handle my anxiety (something that before reading Anna’s book, I would have downplayed it to “my tendency to worry about silly things”). I want to understand exactly what fuels it, how I stop it from ruining a perfectly happy moment and how I can be kinder to myself in these moments.

I highly recommend Anna’s book to anyone who wants to understand a bit more about anxiety, especially mums, as you might relate to a lot of the examples in the book. 💛

I’ll tell you a funny story... it’s quite emba

I’ll tell you a funny story... it’s quite embarrassing, actually, but here we go.

I went on a run today.

I was so hot and out of breath! I had no energy and was just finding it impossible to keep a steady pace.

So I set myself a target to run most of the way, walk up a steep hill, run downhill and do the same on the way back.

As I was approaching said hill, I was so glad to have a break and catch my breath!

But just as I got to the bottom of the hill, there was a family walking in front on me and I could not bring myself to run past them and then start walking up the hill.

I felt so self-conscious and started overthinking the whole thing.

What if they laugh at me for walking up the hill?

What if they overtake me after I just overtook them? How embarrassing!

I ended up ignoring what my body needed and ran up the hill. It took everything in me and it totally screwed my pace and motivation for the rest of that run!

I always have little moments of hyper self-awareness, but this one today was so ridiculous! I felt at the mercy of my thoughts and completely powerless.

That family probably wouldn’t have cared at all about a random runner who was catching her breath. They were too busy having fun, which is what I should have been doing instead of exhausting myself for no reason whatsoever.

Anyway! I wanted to share this because it’s easy to talk about the things we feel comfortable with and the areas of life where we are doing well. But it’s important to remember that everyone has insecurities and struggles.

I’m working hard on my internal dialogue so I don’t let it ruin my life experiences, but some days (like today) it wins.

Anyone else ever experience something similar? I’d love to hear some histories to know I’m not the only one! 💛

It’s sad how our distorted perception of ourselves can affect our enjoyment of life so much.

I still have moments of self doubt, but nowadays they hardly ever stop me from wearing what I want to wear.

And even when I don’t feel confident, I act like it for my children, because they look up to me.

When the time comes for them to feel self-conscious, I want them to hear my voice saying “you are beautiful, you are loved, you are unique”. 💫
